BSF seizes ₹6.5 crore worth gold, drugs, and silver in 10 major raids on India-Bangladesh border in one month

In a month-long anti-smuggling operation along the India-Bangladesh southern border, the Border Security Force (BSF) seized contraband items worth approximately ₹6.5 crore. The seizures included gold, silver, heroin, methaqualone, cannabis, Yaba tablets, and Phensedyl syrup. The operations were conducted across North 24 Parganas, Nadia, and Murshidabad districts in May. Around 8 to 10 separate raids led to the arrest of multiple suspects.

According to official data, on May 3, BSF’s 32nd Battalion at Banpur outpost in Nadia seized 12 gold biscuits weighing 1.662 kg worth ₹1.56 crore. The same day, a smuggler in Swarupnagar, North 24 Parganas, was caught carrying gold and silver ornaments worth ₹8.36 lakh hidden inside a motorcycle’s fuel tank. On May 4, BSF’s Khandua outpost in Murshidabad seized 1.06 kg methaqualone and 100 gm heroin, with a combined estimated value of ₹3.38 crore.

On May 7, BSF arrested a smuggler at Bithari checkpost in Swarupnagar with three gold biscuits weighing 335 gm and valued at ₹33.53 lakh. On May 15, Halderpara outpost in Nadia recovered 17.66 kg of silver balls worth ₹17.13 lakh. On the same day, separate operations led to the seizure of 6 kg cannabis and 216 bottles of Phensedyl syrup. In another case that day, BSF recovered an additional 6 kg cannabis and another 216 bottles of Phensedyl.

On May 16, BSF personnel in Hakimpur, North 24 Parganas, stopped two suspects and recovered 10 gold biscuits weighing 1.167 kg with an estimated market value of ₹1.11 crore. In coordinated operations, the 32nd Battalion in Nadia and the 143rd Battalion in North 24 Parganas seized 41 kg cannabis. All the recovered narcotics, gold, and silver were handed over to the concerned authorities.

On May 28, personnel from Ghojadanga outpost in North 24 Parganas seized a bag containing 5,914 Yaba tablets and 110 bottles of WinCirex syrup, valued at ₹59.14 lakh. In another raid that same day, the 67th and 143rd Battalions recovered 34.58 kg cannabis and 308 bottles of Phensedyl, and arrested one smuggler along with a motorcycle used for transportation.

Separately, BSF intercepted a drone flying nearly 2 km inside Indian territory in the Samserganj area of Murshidabad. It hovered for approximately 20 minutes and was equipped with a 4K camera. BSF personnel secured the drone and submitted it to the local police station. The BSF South Bengal PRO stated that this series of seizures represents a significant achievement in curbing cross-border smuggling.
